There IS a God

    Yes, There is a God

How do I know there is a God?

I just know. I didn’t always know, but I do know now.

How did I get from not knowing to knowing???

I went through hoping. I think hoping is really another word for faith.

There was a time in my life where everything I thought I had control over fell apart—I believed I had nothing left. It was in this very dark place that I cried out. Let not my will but Your Will be done. That was it. I began to feel hopeful as I let go of the world “as I would have it”. 

I was 40 years old. I will be 60 years old in a few months. I am really 20 though—I did not really begin living until God rescued me from myself! Where was He for 40 years? I feel certain He was right there with me, waiting for me to call out His name—Jesus.

He came and found me ---He will find you too if you want to be found. That is the hope or “faith” I was referring to earlier---it is really “wanting” to be found.

What does that look like?

 For me, it means there are no more coincidences in my life---only God things—divine appointments. I have learned to trust those little “niggles. Sometimes it is a thought that won’t go away—or a dream – words to a song—especially songs---it is then I get and idea and if I act on it and it is from God, there is an overwhelming sense of well being. It takes practice---but the more I listen and act---the more fulfilled my life becomes. I cannot go back.  I can only go.

Why do bad things happen?

I do not know. When I get to heaven I will ask those questions—babies die, moms get sick, dads go away, dreams turn to nightmares. Not my plan—but it is not about my plan. I have to accept that.

How can I believe when I have so many questions?

For me it is a choice. I had to choose to believe. I had to make a decision. Either there is a God or there is not---if He is then He is everything if not than He is nothing. I believe He is and that He is everything. It may sound simple and it is. He wants it to be---He wants us to follow Him. He wants to show us the way. He wants us to have peace. He wants us to feel loved. In turn He wants us to make peace and to love.  To me it is like looking at one of those puzzles where if you squint your eyes and lean your head a certain way you can make sense out of a picture, and once you see it---that is all you can see. That is what it was like when I chose to follow Jesus. At first the picture was fuzzy—other people would look at it and tell
